Antique silver five branch corinthian column candelabra by Elkington and Co Ltd 1902.
Large and impressive sterling silver candelabra, the central candlestick design is that of a corinthian column with a square base, neoclassical design with swags and urn decoration to all four sides. The borders are gadrooned with stepped levels. The Corinthian column finalizes at the top supporting four branches with candle holders to each termination, the central support with the fifth candle holder. The arms of the branches are sculpted into stem forms with each candle holder ornately designed containing scrolls and fauna decoration. The central stem is that of a flower rising with a candle holder depicting the flower head. Each of the five candle holders is fitted with loose sconces for cleaning. All the sconces are finished to the edges with gadrooned detail and circular tappers to the centers to enhance the fine detail of this piece. Assay marks are located on all five sconces, main central location arm and the base side of the candelabra, Elkington and Co engraved to the base perimeter.
This stunning centerpiece can be altered into a three-branch candelabra or a single candlestick. The silver candelabra can be reduced for storage. The column of the silver candelabra is filled for stability with all other elements above the intersection being of solid silver, subsequently, the weights are shown in two categories. All sconces are fitted with a location pin to finalize position when assembling with the central candleholder being threaded to secure the silver candelabra as a whole.
The antique silver candelabra is in fantastic condition, a possible repair to one of the arms but without any detriment. All segments fit as they should and without play. Threads and retaining parts are undamaged, the silver candelabra sits flat and level.
Assay marks are rubbed to the base side, the anchor mark of Birmingham being the worst, but still just legible. All other marks are clear and readable. No splits to the base corners, all detailing is still very well defined. All sconces and candleholders are in great condition.
