The Duchess of Sutherland Cripples Guild of Handicrafts.
The guild was formed firstly to provide medical treatment to children and subsequently to school them in a craft. Initially they were taught craft skills such as flower arranging for girls and printing for boys. 1902 saw the introduction of trades under the direction of Frances Arthur Edwards. Much of the work consisted of copper silver plate and silver.
1907 saw the change to a limited company and the name changed to The Duchess of Sutherland Cripples Guild of Handicrafts. These beautiful pieces were sold locally and via 13-14 New Bond Street, London. The guild ceased in 1922, the Duchess dying in 1955. The work under the guilds name was marked with the letters DSCG with a crown. M.S maker's mark was the mark registered at Birmingham assay office for items that were to hallmarked (sterling silver). The Guild was recognized as an influential part of the British Arts & Crafts movement.

The overall condition of the silver coffee pot is good with a little rubbing to the engraved detail. The cartouche is vacant with no monogram removal or thinning. The lid hinge is good with no movement to the hinge pin. The handle sits tight into the coffee pot ferrules with pin retainers good. The coffee pot is free from dents and deep scratches with surface marks representative of age. All assay marks are rubbed with age but legible, please see images for clarification. Please note the makers mark to the lid has been struck twice, once upside down and then in the same direction as the other marks. Under magnification, there are two dots one to the center top and one to the center bottom confirming the error by the Birmingham assay office.
