Georgian sterling silver coffee pot by Solomon Hougham 1803.
Beautiful oval bulbous form George III silver coffee pot from the turn of 19th century. The body is engraved with two laurel leaf reserves that are vacant without monograms or crests. These cartouche areas have had no engraved removals, subsequently no thinning. Hand engraved detail has been applied to coffee pot foot with flora and fauna to top section of coffee pot, lid and surrounding areas. The lid has a flush hinge with seat set within a rebated surround. The knop is of fruitwood with a silver finial. Two silver ferules house a fruitwood handle with carved thumb rest. The coffee pot is assayed to the inside of the lid with a passant mark and fully assayed to the base foot perimeter. Hallmarks consist of makers mark, passant silver mark for 925, duty mark of George III, date letter and London assay office.
This Georgian coffee pot is in lovely condition. The lid hinge has virtually no play in it and seats very well within rebate. The handle is secure within ferrules with retaining pins secure. The engraving is crisp and clear. The body areas are without dents or deep scratches with surface marks representative of age. Assay marks are all clear and legible with little rubbing.
